„The European Trophy is an important tournament for the development of women 15’s rugby within Europe. The European Championship takes place each four years (Note: next edition in 2012) but the FIRA-AER must propose games to emerging unions trough a serious competition and with the help of the big nations.“ Here are the words of Jean-Claude Baqué, Chairman of the FIRA-AER, and which sum up the philosophy of the European Trophy.

After Sweden in 2009, it is France, and more precisely the Regional Committee of Alsace Lorraine who will host the event from 7 until 16 of May, 2010.

Und Ergebnisse gibt es bei der FIRA.
Hier nur kurze Zusammenfassung (ebenfalls via FIRA):

Gruppe A
„England, European Champion
England overcame the final of the Women’s European Championship yestarday against Wales.

No try has been scored in this game which could be sum up as a dual of kicker, each having had her half. Non Evans scored two penalties-kick for Wales during the first period, four for the English Katy Mc Lean during the second one. Final win for England: 12-6. Both teams had nevertheless produced nice rugby troughout the tournament, but yesterday, it was the defense which have been solicited and in this game, it was the English strictness and discipline which were better.
One more time, congratulations to the new European Championship which succeed to France, only the fourth of the EC, dominated by Ireland during the third place game. By four times the French defense has cracked and despite the drawn final score 22-22, they let the last place of the podium to their opponent because they scored only three tries against four for Ireland.
For the fifth place, it is Scotland which overcame 27 – 25 versus Spain during a fantastic game (Eight tries), certainly one the best of the Championship, Iberica players loosing in the injury time.
For the Seventh place, Netherlands overcame against Sweden 7 – 6. “

Gruppe B
“ The Tsarinas confirm

Russia has easily overcome the final of the Group B against France Army. Faster and better organised, the Eastern player have taken the advantage during the first minutes when the back and captain Anastasiya Mukharyamova raised from her 22 meters et some passes later Anna Gottseva finished between the posts.
Throughout the tournament, Russia played a sumptuous, creative, collective and beautiful rugby. Agility and fastness of its back made her as the most offensive team. Its players were able to take risks hugely and they did not hesitate to raise from anywhere on the field. So it is logical that they were the winner of the Group B.
Congratulations also to the Russian wing Natalia Selyvtina, a very technical player who made an exploit : she scored eleven tries during the five games of her team.
Germany at the last minute
Unbelievable screenplay for the 3rd place game. Ten minutes left and belgium led 15 – 7 and got the victory. But they may be forgot the courage of Germany players who by two times, passed over the Belgian in-goal line and took the advantage during the last action f the game. Final Score : 19 – 15
In the 5th place game, Romania overcame to Finland 12 – 5.
Final ranking
1- Russia; 2- France Army; 3- Germany; 4- Belgium; 5- Romania; 6- Finland“
